I have been threatening to do this for a while now. Here it is. After a few decades of studying this question, it now seems to me that there are few others related to subjects such as Chinese medicine, Taijiquan, and so on that deserve my attention.
Hence, what is qi? I don't think that it's a matter of answering this question, per se. I think it's a rather more a matter of continuously raising it.
The classics of Taijiquan contain a line that says, "to enter the door and be shown the way, you must be orally taught; the technique is continuous and is achieved through self-study."
It is in this spirit that I now inaugurate this blog of qi, as awkward as that phrase strikes me.
I hope to raise many questions by doing so.
Is qi energy?
Is it tolerable that people use the word "energy" to mean qi?
Is qi mysterious and beyond human capacity to understand?
Or is any and everything we understand merely a manifestation, a consequence, a permutation of qi?
Is there a truth to be known about qi?
Is qi subject to the laws of supply and demand?
Can one be certified in qi?
Ought there be a license to use qi?
I make no promises, neither about the frequency and quantity of my entries here nor certainly as to their quality. I only hope to maintain a continuous thread...
I welcome everyone and hope others will take hold of this thread, tug at it, twist it around in their minds and in their hands, add to it, take away whatever they can and might, and in any way possible contribute to its continuity. And whenever I have to go it alone, I will.
That's today's entry.
We'll see what tomorrow brings.
